However, the police should be held accountable of their actions and to some point, they should be arrested as well since after all, none is above the law and human life should be protected unless under some protective measures. By taking action against the police and charging them, as well would to some extent lead to the decline in the cases of police brutality against the blacks (Morrison, 2017). The other noted incident that also indicated that consequences for police misconduct are minimal or less is when Officer Jeronimo Yanez from Minnesota killed Philando Castile back in the year 2016 and was acquitted in 2017 (Morrison). POLICE BRUTALITY 7 the world and people were in the position to see what took place during the incident. The Minnesota Police Officer Jeronimo who was a girlfriend to Philando Castile allegedly shot him and left him lifeless. When the case was brought before the jury just like the other cases where the victims in this case were the minority, the same case was applicable whereby the police officer was acquitted (Chaney & Robertson, 2013). Such action by the jury raised a national debate regarding the police conduct towards black people living amongst white Americans. Leviticus 19:15 states “You shall do no injustice in court. You shall not be partial to the poor or defer to the great, but in righteousness shall you judge your neighbor.” It would be noted that in all these cases, the victims were the African Americans and the other common thing is that before the jury could provide his or her ruling, tension would erupt, and the police forces are at standby to counter the protesting black Americans (Zatz, 2000). The reason in this case, is because the police and the jury as a whole knew what they were doing and knew how they subjected the blacks into victimization. By having a mentality such as this towards the blacks, there becomes a creation of tension that would as well resulted in several other casualties in the process. Therefore, there would be a lack or minimal consequences for police officers involved in these unlawful killings. Some whites tend to view blacks as animals and not human beings and this can be seen when either the police are on their mission towards either a war or dispersing the crow of those individuals who in turn are in their own world (Chaney & Robertson, 2013). At some point, for the society not to experience such experiences in the future that involves the unlawful killings just because they are black, there is the need for adequate training of the police force and making them face their charges like any other person (Chaney & Robertson, 2013). It is noted that through adequate training, the police officer will know and practice the most important ways of handling issues at hand. Blacks and other minorities in many

POLICE BRUTALITY 8 cases needed to be treated with the proper respect and curtesy just like other people of a different race. In addition, in case the police will fairly treat the minority, then issues regarding police brutality would be minimal since the police will have learned the consequences and what they should do to ensure that there is an abidance of law and order. Thus, by having well-defined laws and conduct, the cases of police brutality will have declined (Bottoms & Tankebe, 2012).
