with our own interpretation of this artwork would be secondary sources. Any other review or interpretation would also follow as a secondary source. Now the credibility of the secondary sources are a completely separate thing. The text interprets how this art work is a reflection on the culture during that era and how women were highly valued. Many interpretations as to why this art work was created were assumed but the actual reason is unknown. Our text, as a secondary source, explains how women in this era played a very important role and were honored for their fertility and child bearing experiences (Sayre, 2013). Both sources, primary as the artwork itself along with the secondary being our textbook are both very important in our study of humanities and aid in our own interpretation of this artwork. Being able to critically thinkand create our own opinions then aid us in our everyday life. Reference: Sayre, Henry (2013) Discovering the Humanities (2nd ed.) Upper Saddle River, NJ : PearsonWeek 3: TheaterMain:Tosuspend disbelief is to, "temporarily allow oneself to believe something that isn't true, especially in order to enjoy a work of fiction" (Oxford Dictionaries).During a theatrical performance, special effects are used but there are limitations. When filming, technology can be utilized to edit and add in additional visuals that may not have been originallythere. During a performance on stage, the audience is watching the performance live, so there is no time to re-do or edit in or out different visual effects. Because of this, the audience memberis forced to "suspend disbelief." I believe this is a weakness and a strength at the same time. While the visual effects are missing, the audience gains one of a kind experience. The production may be performed multiple times, but no two performances will be exactly the same. Seeing actors live vs. on screen adds a new level of dramatization. You feel as if you are in the current moment with the actors and may even feel as though you are there. There is also a social aspect to theater. There is something about getting dressed up and watching a live play that intrigues some people. Date night is taken from the movie theater or even living room to a stage. During a film production, we expect more. Knowing that certain technology is attainable and that editing is possible for movies on screen leaves us wanting a higher definition film
where we are not asked to suspend disbelief. Many years ago, this may have been different but in todays world, it has been done so now we expect nothing less. I have not been to many theatrical productions other then "Wicked" as a child or high school theater productions. I enjoy both theatrical and film productions so I don't believe I would be able to choose between the two. I would want to see The Tempest in both versions and then compare and contrast.
