butanol, 1-pentanol. The reason for this order is that for gas chromatography the retention time is based on boiling points which are based on surface area. The higher the boiling point the longer the retention time, and therefore the compound with elute last. The more surface area a compound has the higher its’ boiling point will be, therefore that is why t- butanol will elute first because it has the lowest boiling point, followed by 1-butanol, and 1-pentanol respectively. 4) The Kp for 1-butanol will be larger than the Kp for 1-pentanol. 5) Column Solid Support Gas Tank Flow Injection Oven Detector Attenuator Cart Recorder Regulator Port 6) Helium is an excellent carrier because it is readily available and is non-polar. 7) The injection port should be between 250 and 300 degrees Celsius. 8) Good solid support is made up of small spherical inert particles. A good stationary phase has a low volatility, thermal stability, is chemically inert, and high boiling organic. 9) The temperature of an oven is held at a constant temperature in order to make sure the retention order and time is not altered. If the temperature is too low than the peaks will broaden and the analysis will be too long as well as inaccurate. If the temperature is too high than the different components will elute too fast and no separation will be observed. 10) Thermal conductivity detection was used. It is non-destructive. 11) A flame ionization detector is desirable when one wants to use a more sensitive detection. Also it is for when one wants to burn the sample and produce ions, it is also destructive.

As a current student on this bumpy collegiate pathway, I stumbled upon Course Hero, where I can find study resources for nearly all my courses, get online help from tutors 24/7, and even share my old projects, papers, and lecture notes with other students.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
