Dez, Kel, Mare, SEEN, Skeme, and T-Kid. The purpose of this documentary was to expose the pop culture from the 70s and 80s and from what I’ve seen it looks like Silver and Chalfant achieved it. Chalfant’s reputation since then has only increased with the popularity of his photographs featuring the subway car graffitis being currently displayed in The Bronx Museum of arts. After visiting the “Henry Chalfant: Art vs. Transit, 1977-1987” exhibition in the museum, I noticed some differences between the film and his photographs. For example, the pictures taken by Chalfant in the museum seemed to be of a much higher quality than what we saw during the film. His photographs really capture the entirety of the graffiti community and how they expressed through their art in the subway cars. The clothing and hairstyles shown by a picture of the Rock Steady Crew shows the comparison in fashion during the 80s as compared to the modern day.

Juliao 3 One of the aspects of the film that I enjoyed the most was the fact that we as a viewer could actually witness the artists while making the graffitis. Usually one sees graffiti while walking in the street, but it is rare to see an artist in the act of doing one since authorities consider it a crime. I would have to say that this documentary is well above “News From Home” since although it is not like a hollywood movie that contains a plot, it shows interactions with people in the scenes.
