These cells are called embryonic stem cells the pros

This preview shows page 1 out of 1 page.

These cells are called embryonic stem cells. The pros of using these cells are regeneration, transfusions, stem cell therapy, and immunotherapy. And this goes for all stem cells, many of these cells regenerate quickly and have the ability to replicate DNA which could be extremely important in learning how these cells really do work and interact throughout the human body. Not only can stem cells have a positive influence on modern medicine, but they can also be very controversial, again coming from embryonic cells. Many people question the morality of taking cells from the liquid that a baby needs to develop for research, or if taking cells for unspecified or unknown purposes is safe. In addition to that, stem cells are rare in large quantity, so limited supply makes research extremely expensive, and many people have limited opportunity to work with them. There is also the possibility that humans being cured from solutions of stem cell therapy or medication may respond negatively, as their body may reject the substances, and research, time, and money can all be put to waste without proper or known reasoning. Overall, my view of modern medicine and stem cell research is that it’s okay as long as the people you are taking these cells from are okay with doctors taking their cells. If doctors were going behind patients backs and taking their cells without the patients knowing; I could see why that's wrong. But with us all being in a world with so many varieties of weird diseases with unknown cures, I think it’s super important to keep our options open, and that we do whatever it takes to help people in need, as long as we’re staying safe and in proper legal circumstances.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
