continuing the work after the initial enthusiasm has dissipated. Quality improvement requires a significant investment in time and effort to achieve results, and this improvement will succeed only if the same effort is applied to project sustainability. The two potential barriers that may prevent my EBP change proposal from continuing to obtain the desired results 6 months to a year now would be shortage of staff and lack of staff compliance to the proposed practice. My facility continues to struggle with staffing of seasoned registered nurses and is currently training many new OR nurses and surgical technicians. The strategies that can work to overcome these barriers are by making sure that there is adequate nurse and technician education to include the unit metrics, how the metrics are measured and why these metrics are tracked. Management needs to be notified of this issue so that they can manage and help provide necessary education to reduce work load and make better plans for staff retention. Another strategy to increase the issue of staff compliance is on-going education to reinforce the importance to safe patient care and outcomes through decreasing staff exhaustion. These improvements not only save cost but can also save lives. Reference Silver, S. A., McQuillan, R., Harel, Z., Weizman, A. V., Thomas, A., Nesrallah, G., Chertow, G. M. (2016). The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
