for approvals. The path that the workflow pursues as it moves through the logic of the workflow is a path across multiple users who work in collaboration in order to finish the work that is required by the workflow. You use the Recipients properties on a sub process step in order to define a collaborative workflow process. Assignment occurs based on the login name, not on the Position or User ID. This login name can be a literal value, it can be held in a process property or a field of a business component, or it can be the result of an expression. NOTE: The Process Designer cannot validate the data that is supplied to make sure it represents a valid login name at design time. To define a subprocess that assigns a long-running workflow process 1 Define a sub process step. For more information, see “About the Sub Process Step” on page 73 . 2 In the Recipients tab of the MVPW, set the Recipient Name field to the login name of the user who is assigned to the subprocess. For more information, see “About the Process Property” on page 47 , and “Fields of a Recipient Argument of a Process Property” on page 468 . Defining a Long-Running Workflow Process to Assign a Siebel Task UI to an End User You can use a long-running workflow process to assign a task UI to an end user, then generate an inbox item for the task UI and push it to the Inbox for the user. T he user can then click the inbox item in order to create a new instance of the task UI and run it. For example, in an Expense Report Approval long-running workflow, after the employee submits an expense report, a new task UI named Review Expense Report is generated and assigned to the manager for the employee. Because this case is a one-to-one assignment, the assignment can be made simply by looking up the ID for the manager from the business component for the user. After the ID for the manager is retrieved, a new item is generated in the Inbox for the manager that references the Review Expense Report task UI.

Options for Developing a Workflow Process About the Workflow Mode Property Siebel Business Process Framework: Workflow Guide Version 8.1, Rev A 141 To define a long-running workflow process to assign a task UI to an end user 1 In the long-running workflow process, at the point where the task UI must be called, determine the ID of the end user to whom the new task UI instance is to be assigned. This logic is dependent on your business requirements, and it can be implemented as a Siebel operation if the ID is already present in a business component. The logic can also be implemented as a call to a business service. If the assignment logic implies application of assignment rules, then a business service interface to Siebel Assignment Manager can be used. The input to the service is variable, depending on the context that is required for the assignment. The output, however, is simply the ID of the end user to whom the task UI is assigned.
