It is the potential one has in “Showing interest, confidence, anddriveto adapt cross-culturally,”5according to Livermore. The CQ drive is composed of three elements: intrinsic interests, extrinsic interests, and self-efficacy. My intrinsic interests rated at 95, my extrinsic interests is at95 as well, and my self-efficacy is rated at 84, which gives me an overall average of 91. All ofthese numbers except self-efficacy is in the high range, and self-efficacy is in the high moderaterange. This truly reflects my passion, energy, and inquisitiveness in learning about new cultures, and I find it is an asset for me as I do interact with diverse cultures, because I get energizedwhen I am in a new cultural environment to learn as much as possible. Interestingly, Livermoreconfirms this when he reports that “Leaders who are effective cross-culturally are curious aboutand interested in different cultures.”6There is not much developing that needs to be done in thisarea, maybe, just working on bringing self-efficacy up into the high range.CQ KnowledgeThis area is very important, because as the report explains that, “CQ Knowledge is thedegree to which you understand how culture influences how people think and behave and yourlevel of familiarity with how cultures are similar and different.”7Knowledge is so criticalbecause is allows one to comprehend how different cultural dynamics affect how individualswithin that culture thinks and acts. This area consist of business, values and norms, socio-5 David Livermore,Leading with Cultural Intelligence: The Real Secret to Success, 2nd ed. linguistics, and leadership. I did not do well in this area. In business I rated a 75, in values andnorms I scored at 67, in the socio-linguistic category my rating was 34, and in leadership Inumbered at 67, which gave me an average of 61. This area gave me the most difficulty becauseto be truly knowledgeable in a culture beyond the tip of the iceberg, it is imperative that oneknow and understand the language at more than a surface level. Once you understand thelanguage, you began to understand the idiosyncrasies of the culture. Thus, my numbers are low, because I have very little knowledge of languages. This is the area in which you “Understandcultural similarities and differences,”8and the area in which I have to work the hardest todevelop.CQ StrategyThis section is related to planning, strategizing, and understanding the cross-culturalexperience.9Planning, awareness, and checking encompasses the strategy of CQ. This area wasvery similar to CQ drive, because my numbers are identical. In planning I scored an 84, inawareness I attained a 95, and in the area of checking I received a 95 as well. This produced anoverall average of 91. I identify with these numbers as well, because when I am aware of afuture interaction with another culture, I enjoy preparing, planning, and practicing.
