Running Head: Business Plan Milestone Two - Environmental & Industry Analysis 5 Industry Analysis Computers have exploded globally over the past thirty years, from two thousand units shipped in 1960 to seven million in 1990. By 2003, over fifteen million units were shipped annually to over sixty-five million per quarter in 2015. With this rise, there has been a corresponding increase for consumer needs in pc repair. As of 2010, there have been over 550,000 individuals employed in the maintenance and repair sector within the United States, and employment was expected to grow through 2018. Over seventy percent of these individuals work in small businesses of less than five employees; another twenty percent work for businesses with less than twenty employees (Sena, n.d.). In the past, the industry of computer repair mainly targeted on fixing and upgrading business computers, and now most of these businesses do over simply maintenance and repair. Over the decade during the 1990s, pc repair services were able to deal with more reliable and less expensive computers affecting business by exchanging parts rather than repairing them, using new diagnostic tools, and providing alternative services like virus protection and disaster recovery solutions.
