operations and the decisions around those operations. SMS allows an organization to adapt to change, increasing complexity, and limited resources. SMS will also promote the continuous improvement of safety through specific methods to predict hazards from employee reports and data collection (FAA, 2016). Three main advancements have been made within aviation to ensure maximum safety is achieved. The first is technological advancements; aircraft over the years have been engineered in a way where every system has redundancies and better-operating systems to maximize safety. The second is pilot training. Pilots have much more access to simulators and more thorough training, which prepares them for almost everything imaginable. The third factor is airline history. Organizations such as the NTSB are critical towards aviation safety, and if incidents do happen, investigations and actions are made to ensure the same accident doesn’t happen again.
QUIZ 6.4 MODULES 4 - 65A significant safety concern that has recently received a recent regulation change throughthe FAA is the implementation of Automatic Dependent Surveillance-Broadcast (ADS-B). This modification enables pilots with real-time surveillance technology to determine aircraft position by satellite navigation and periodically broadcast it. ADS-B has transformed all segments of aviation. Real-time precision shared situational awareness, advanced applications for pilots and controllers alike- these are the hallmarks of ADS-B NextGen Surveillance (FAA, 2020). ADS-B has been instrumental towards aviation safety and efficiency for aircraft taxi and flying. Starting January 1st, 2020, the FAA has required aircraft to be equipped with ADS-B to fly in a majority of controlled airspace.Reflection 2This is all in an attempt to make the airways as safe as possible for those involved in the flying process. One thing I did learn from my research on this is that there will be no subscription fees to use the new system and all its benefits. The owners of the airlines or aircraft will pay for the equipment and installation, but the FAA will cover the cost for administering andbroadcasting all services related to the technology. With this knowledge it will help in a number of ways from safety to budging. Peer discussion 3 – 6.2 Airline Fleet Management Fleet management is an administration approach that helps companies to organize and coordinate work vehicles to have the most efficiency and reduce cost for the company (Rouse).
