Data analysis and statistical research enable healthcare workers insight into patient safety events and reduce the risk of hospital acquired conditions (Bresnick, 2018). With the available data, evidence-based practice is implemented that addresses the safety event or hospital acquired condition providing the patient with appropriate care actions.
APPLICATION OF STATISTICS IN HEALTH CARE 3 Data derived from an electronic health record can be utilized for health promotion through statistical analysis that establishes patterns or trends in a population. Through this analysis, a prediction of events or related health conditions can be assessed (Ambrose, 2018). Health statistics are used to measure the impact of health promotion strategies in the public health sector. The progress of health promotion is tracked in collaboration with the prevalence of a condition and associated behavior and risk factors allowing for effective health promotion program design (NIH, 2008). Statistics are also used in disease surveillance as is seen through the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention surveillance of infectious diseases. The use of healthcare statistics in leadership allows for clinical decision making, resource allocation, clinical coordination of care, cost saving opportunities, and decrease fraud and abuse in billing. Hospital leadership utilizes healthcare data and statistics to predict and solve problems, assess methods and treatments, track inventory, and involve patients in their care to lead to high quality patient outcomes (Lebied, 2018).
