the idea that survival shouldn’t be the goal but rather to die honorable and to achieve something of note for your people. For these reason's Montaigne idolizes the Native people who run into battle fearlessly, their only hope to slay the enemy in the name of their village. The clarity and purity of their purpose contrasts with the European notion of war which he seems to believe has ulterior and underhanded goals. Montaigne believes that European society has become corrupt, decadent, and removed

from the purity of nature. His infatuation with the people of the new world stems from this belief, and it is for this reason that he finds their simpler life more favorable. Montaigne feels that a simple life more attuned with nature is one without sin or deception, and therefore more pure.
