Did he stop her from coming in? Social Worker, police, physician, adult protective services. The beliefs of the patient, customs, capabilities, and habits of the patient. Does he prefer a male nurse to bathe/clean/care him or female if he has a preference? First is controlling the patient’s pain if he has any. Assessing Johns health, hydration, nutrition, and wounds. Priority nursing interventions- first the nurse should take vitals and documents everything she sees with clothes on and clothes off by doing a head to toe assessment because she won’t know the extent of the problems until she assesses fully. The next nursing intervention would be to contact the physician because he may want lab work or cultures of wounds before any interventions are taken. Empathy, trust, respect, rapport, genuineness.

The expected response would be that the patient and his son open up to each other and the nurse and feel comfortable with each other for the best therapeutic relationship. The patient is probably in a lot of pain and may feel like a burden to his son, he may be embarrassed also. His son may be feeling anger toward the caregiver, guilt for not being there for his dad, and sadness/worried about the condition his dad is in. I could be there for them, even if it’s sitting in silence, touch there hand or back during an emotional time, be open and talk to the patient and family, be respectful of their beliefs and feelings, and sit at eye level, don’t cross arms, and listen when they just need someone to listen. I feel like I did well in this scenario, I was so interested in the case study and would love to work toward helping people like this. The knowledge gaps that i had during this scenario may have been the red flags. I’m unsure if those are all of the signs. I learned by going back to my book and refreshing what I already knew that the first thing to do is assess and document, even though I wanted to give him a drink right away I feel like that was the wrong thing to do first. I will apply this scenario to any situation I am in where a patient comes and I think about giving them a drink before doing an assessment first.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
