Itscover and its lead story furthered the notion that the movement is at the centre of advocating forfreedom for those who previously have been marginalized. During its first national conference inCleveland, the group adopted the song “alright” by Kendrick Lamar as the closing theme. This isbecause the song is considered a “socially conscious hip-hop.”20The black Lives Matter also publicly challenged politicians such as the 2016 presidentialcandidates to declare their stand on the issues advocated by the movement and how their policieswill help ameliorate the problems at hand. Liberal and conservative candidates were alsochallenged by the group to advocate the issues mostly affecting black American voters and theirlives. In addition to Black Lives Matter movement disruptions and challenges, the groupdisrupted a Seattle rally that was to be addressed by Senator Bernie Sanders attended byapproximately five thousand people. Worth noting is that the disruptions gave limelight to the movement of which resultedto support from other individuals as well as spreading their message across the globe. Theeffective use of technology has seen the movement grow to many countries such as Ghana andother African Countries, France, United Kingdom, Latin America and many more. Just as BlackLives Matter grew from a mere hashtag so are other movements such as the 2015 Baltimorerebellion whose ignition of a world movement was an emulation of Black Lives Matter strategyof using technology and social media.21Looking at the Black Lives Matter movement in today’s society, no doubt existspertaining to the role social movements play in shaping the culture in this country. Black LivesMatter movement is greatly influencing the institution in many different ways, providing thatthey understand the system in which they operate. Black Lives Matter movement is working hardto broaden their scope to promote progressive changes in today’s society. Going by theirstrategies and the national and international attention they get, the ovement is going nowheresoon and might end up the longest surviving social movement in history. Also, it is important tonote that what keeps the movement alive, motivating the activist more and giving them strengthto carry on with the movement is first, the incessant black killings in the hands of law enforcers,
