narratives. When using observer narratives, the observer takes notes during the session and then goes back over the notes and data collected later and tries to distinguish patterns of behavior from them. The last method is called audio and video recording. In this method, researchers video the behavior being observed and go back over the videos later to try and determine behavior patterns. Since data can not be collected from every single moment of the subject’s life there are two different ways that data can be collected. Sampling is the main way that data is collected. The goal of sampling is to make a representative arrangement of the subjects overall behavior. Attaining a representative sample is done in two different ways. The first one is called time sampling. Time sampling involves taking samples from different intervals of time, which may either be random or systematic. The second is called situation sampling. Situation sampling involves observing a behavior in many different settings and situations. Another type of observational psychology is called controlled observation. In controlled observation the researcher controls all conditions. This type of observation method would be done in a laboratory type setting. This type of setting would allow the researcher to control all aspects of the experiment, which would not allow any room for discrepancy. There are many advantages with controlled observation. The researcher tends to have more control, which means that the results are more accurate. Also, it is easier to replicate the experiment again, which would not allow for the results to be refuted since the experiment could be done over and over. The biggest disadvantage is that the researcher would

most likely not be able to determine the exact cause and effect, however they may be able to draw tentative conclusions. Another type of observational psychology method is called participant observation. In this method the observer is also a subject in his or her own experiment. Depending on the experiment, other subjects may or may not know that the researcher is also a subject in the experiment. If the other participants did not know that the researcher was participating in the study it would allow the researcher to have a very detailed analysis of the experiment. It would also allow a researcher participating in his or her own study would allow them to have a very different insight to the experiment. The goal of participant observation is to gain a

As a current student on this bumpy collegiate pathway, I stumbled upon Course Hero, where I can find study resources for nearly all my courses, get online help from tutors 24/7, and even share my old projects, papers, and lecture notes with other students.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
