38 Wahab Almuhtadi 3.3.10 OC-3 Shelf Configuration The S/DMS Transport Node OC-3 can operate in a UPSR or linear system. The UPSR and linear systems support the same various shelf configurations. The OC-3 shelf is made of 18 slots where the circuit packs can be inserted in the backplane, as shown in Figure 3.10 and Figure 3.13. The circuit pack provisioning rules supported by the S/DMS TransportNode OC-3 Rel1 is the following: The left input/output circuit pack can be inserted only in slot 1. The PSC (protection switching controller) circuit pack can be inserted only in slot 2. The DS1 Mapper circuit pack can be inserted in slot 3 to 6,with the first two in slots 3 and 4 and additional DS1 Mapper in slots 5 and 6 (in that order). The DS3 Mapper circuit packs can be inserted in slot 5 to 10. In a protected configuration the first two DS3 Mappers are inserted in slots 10 and 9, additional DS3 Mappers are inserted in Pairs in slots 8 and 7 and then in slots 6 and 5. For an unprotected configuration, the first DS3 Mapper circuit pack
