he believes that will put a bruise on Rome as a whole. All the rest of the conspirators are in on the plan to kill Caesar because of jealousy. They all hate how much more superior Caesar is over them, and they have the desire for all his belongings. Antony even goes on and says that Brutus “was the noblest Roman of them all; / All the conspirators, save only he, / Did that they did in envy of great Caesar” (5.5.68-70). Antony, Brutus’s enemy in battle, calls Brutus the noblest out of all Romans. Antony doesn’t agree with all of Brutus’s actions, but he respects him in how loyal he is to the Roman empire. All the conspirators go along with the plan to kill Caesar for personal desires, except for the honorable Brutus.

Johnson 3 Some may say Brutus is a dishonorable and untrustworthy individual. One reason is Brutus kills Caesar even though Caesar has done nothing to wrong Rome, or anybody for that matter. Brutus has no proof of Caesar taking the crown and him having full control of Rome. Caesar loves Brutus as a son, and for Brutus to turn on him like that puts Caesar in pure shock and disbelief. However, Brutus sees the potential future of Rome. Brutus does not kill Caesar for what he has done, but for what he may do in future time. Brutus doesn’t want to take any chances of Caesar having complete and superior control of Rome. Brutus sees what is to come for the Roman Empire, and he wants what is best for the public. Brutus has to act now and fast before it is too late. Once Caesar is crowned, there is no going back, and Brutus is afraid Rome as a whole will regret it if they don’t take action immediately.
