I deal with critical paths every project I take on even though I am just repairingor replacing parts on a house. I look at every job as a project. I have a budget tostick to with a given profit margin that I would like to make. Material orders,Crew hires, etc. I don't write down or plan out my critical paths because Isimply do them in my head but I look at them with every job and almost everyday the project is going on until I am paid in full. Many times material or thecrew will cause me delays and those are my biggest critical path items.Sometimes the weather delays work and when that happens it affects several ofmy critical path items which will put a damper on future projects too. Becausein my line of work, one of your critical path items is the project before beingcompleted before that crew can move on to the next project. I guess you can sayI have 1 big project of many small projects that all affect each other in some wayor another.Just makes you have to see the big picture and look at multiple projects acrossyour realm in order to have a smooth company and avoid hiccups.JerimiahJerimiah BurtThread:Peoples Question #2Post:Peoples Question #2Author:Posted Date:February 24, 2016 12:51 PMStatus:PublishedQ: What characteristics must a project have for critical pathscheduling to be applicable?Provide examples of thesecharacteristics.Kenneth Peoples
3/6/2016Collection – MBA675T303 Operations & Logistics in the (...6/28(Post is Read)A: A critical path shows the activities within a process that, if unaltered, lead tothe quickest possible end result. So, for a critical path to be relevant there mustbe a beginning and ending point in the process. This includes manufacturing aproduct or construction jobs that begin at one point with activities that worktowards a completion point. Another characteristic are the activities themselves– if there are multiple aspects of production, each with their own start andfinish time frames then a critical path is relevant. By knowing this path, amanager can conclude what can’t be changed without also changing thecompletion time frame.Thread:Peoples Question #2Post:RE: Peoples Question #2Author:Posted Date:February 29, 2016 8:22 PMStatus:Published(Post is Read)KennethGood explanation of what project need to use the Critical path method. Onething that I would like to add is there needs to be some tasks that can be done atdifferent times during the project. If all the tasks are done one after the otherthen all the tasks will be on the critical path. Also having a project large enoughto make it worth analyzing.
