fit this description like an evergreen tree? we won’t study that tree in this study because we have excluded it in our definition; this is not a problem - we must define the phenomena that we are interested in in a way that will allow us to study it (we cannot study all instances of the phenomena so we must define what we want to study) - we need precision to define the phenomena but we recognize that that definition (operational definition) may not apply to all situations in the phenomena. This will effect what we can generalize to - if we are interested in “Attitudes towards having multiple wives” and we develop a questionnaire and this class fills it out and he analyzes the results; he cannot generalize it to the entire population because we are not people in general we represent young adults in a top university with a higher SES than the population. The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
