Unsupervised teenage peer groups a. Peer groups provide courage to individual members to commit criminal acts b. Occasionally provide training for adult criminal activity 3. Low organizational participation a. Organizations are what control/monitor youth b. There are little clubs, activities or positive groups that exist to help monitor youth in these areas E. Exogenous variables 1. Low economic status a. Social disorganized areas are poor b. Poverty is not the main cause of crime - Materialist fallacy – belief that poverty is the direct root of crime c. There are some direct correlations between poverty and crime/delinquency 2. Ethnic heterogeneity a. Lot of different ethnic groups within an area b. Groups are segmented and become mistrustful of one another - Lower network density as people choose not to interact with one another 3. Family disruption a.
