resistance rate against metronidazole and clarithromycin; these antibiotics should not be recommended. 6 Treatments It is important to consider possible antibiotic resistance when selecting the treatment regimen. FDA and international organizations have approved several triple therapy regimens for the treatment of H pylori with gastric and duodenal peptic ulcer disease. Surgical intervention is not required for patients with H pylori infection, but it may be a consideration for patients with severe complications, such as cancer. 7 Nursing Considerations Assess the client’s pain, including the location, characteristics, precipitating factors, onset, duration, frequency, quality, intensity, and severity. Instruct the client to avoid NSAIDs such as aspirin. These medications may cause irritation of the gastric mucosa. Instruct the client that meals should be eaten by regularly paced intervals in a relaxed setting. Encourage the importance of smoking cessation. 8 Patient Teaching Educate patients with a high risk for gastric cancer about clinical control methods and, if H pylori -positive, to begin eradication therapy. However, patients must be educated about the adverse effects of the therapy in order to impress upon them the importance of compliance with the full regimen in order to prevent antibiotic resistance and relapse.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
