the case (Marriage. Psychology Today). Although the government legalizes marriage, society is the true owner of its meaning. As normative social influences shifted throughout time, what humanity recognized and accepted as a marriage changed. For example, in the Enlightenment Era, humanity began to weave love into marriages because the concept of love and affection began to become more prevalent. As society changes its expectations of relationships, the definition of marriage begins to become more fluid. When looking towards the future, how marriage is perceived will continue to shift and change as social issues are brought to light and resolved.
