came from the white audience. Fisher began to feel like a stranger in so many of the places he used to be most comfortable. Instead of responding with the most obvious emotions of betrayal and awkwardness, Fisher took solace in this transition. He ends his article with a defining quote that summarizes this radical transformation of the Harlem jazz scene. Referring to the whites as ‘Nordics’ he states: “Maybe these Nordics at last have tuned in on our wave-length. Maybe they are at last learning to speak our language” (Fisher 65).
