Chabelis Valdes POS 2041 ’’ Pope John Paul II has labeled the U.S. economic embargo against Cuba "unjust and ethically unacceptable" but warned the Castro regime that the world is "tired of the old ideologies" and urged more freedom for Cubans. The 81-year-old pontiff, who visited Cuba and met with President Fidel Castro in 1998, addressed Cuban prelates making the visit to the Vatican required of bishops every five years. In an apparent attack on Cuban communism, John Paul told the bishops July 6 that they live in "a world tired of the old ideologies, which in losing their initial attraction have created in many a deep emptiness and a lack of the sense of life."
