The EU Regulation No 305/2011 was included within the standardization Work program of 2017 to ensure safety and hygiene for materials and products which are in contact with any type of water which is utilized for human consumption. One of the provisions was increasing the costs of provision to between EUR 5.9 billion and EUR 7.3 billion for package 2 and 3. The policy requires both small and large water suppliers to utilize the risk-based strategies which encourage use of energy saving equipment, and less need to treat water. The approach also improves pollution treatment at the source before packaging. This is also meant to increase the cost of bottled water and encourage consumers to drink tap water instead of bottled water. In conclusion, several legislations are in place to define the relevant market under which bottled still water is kept. The law considered bottled water as food hence treats it in terms of the food as far as legislative requirements are concerned. The EU law requires that information regarding prices per litter and volume of consumption be provided in bottled water packages before selling.
