opportunities for training and substantive work to develop and improve skills and attributes.” Firm Culture • “There are many social events for lawyers to get together both inside and outside the workplace. Orrick also holds great events inviting founders on-site (Orrick Total Access) which gives us a chance to socialize with the start-up community as well. We also have small, informal office parties for various annual holidays (Halloween party, Thanksgiving, etc.) in addition to the annual end-of-year holiday party.” • “Everyone is incredibly friendly and the office is very relaxed. There are no screamers, no one getting mad. Everyone enjoys working with each other and to the extent people get stressed out, others are there to pick them up.” • “Very progressive and forward thinking in its approach to running a law firm. New ideas are encouraged. Everything runs smoothly so you can focus your time on doing deals or helping with key initiatives like recruiting, business development, etc. Partners really encourage associates to get involved with business development or implement cool ideas that they think of.” • “Lawyers here seem to get along personally, to the extent personal friendships are being sought out. Socially and politically the firm has always emphasized diversity and inclusions, and has championed causes that speak to that commitment.” Associate/Partner Relations • “Associate/partner relationships at Orrick are strong. Management regularly briefs the associates on firm performance and finances.” Hours • “There is always an ebb and flow to the number of hours in project finance, but on the whole, the amount of work achieves a good balance. Partners make an effort to distribute work evenly so that associates do not get burned out, and partners and fellow associates are very willing to work around travel plans and pitch in to allow colleagues to take vacations. Face-time is not rigidly required.” • “I am a first year associate and I am very satisfied with my work hours. Face-time is not required at all; people care about the quality of your work here.” • “Work is evenly distributed and care is given to make sure that enough work exists without expecting long hours.” • “Face-time requirements vary by partner. The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
