White Racial Frame – an organized set or racialized ideas, emotions, and inclination as well as recurring or habitual discriminating actions that are consciously or unconsciously expressed in and constituted of the routine operation and racist institutions of U.S. society.

American History Timeline (focused on racialized system of slavery and its lasting effects today) 1607 2011 1607 – Jamestown Colony 1619 – First slave ship arrives to the Jamestown colony on a Dutch frigate carrying 20 Africans 1680 – Language of Black and White is traced to this era 1690 – Slave centered economy increasingly important to new colonists. It was a central system to US economy. Farms with profit have slaves because labor is free. 1700 – Slave economy takes off 1776 – Several generations of colonists have existed. Indians have been driven West or killed off, Africans brought in to work this Indian land. The economic system is booming in the North and South because of the slave labor. 1774-1781 – American Revolution 1776 – Declaration of Independence by Thomas Jefferson 1787 – Constitutional Convention Unveiled 55 elite white property holders. 45 were slave holders (70% of the actual writers held slaves), The non-slave holders were still involved in slave trade, i.e. shipping, lawyers for contracting slaves, banking that was a huge industry because of slave profits. 3 slave positions in the Constitution o Slaves count as 3/5 of a person (giving more political power to the south because the population is greater with the 3/5 clause) o Fugitive slave provision (relates to 2 nd amendment to bear arms, so runaway slaves could be shot) o Slave trade would remain in tack and could not be re-evaluated to end until 1808 1789 – 1865 – US Congress protects slavery because they have enough votes to block anything not in their interest and could push things they were interested in. The South had more representatives because of the 3/5 clause, but that awarded no representation for blacks. 1803 – Louisiana Purchase – more than doubled the size of the U.S. 1861-1865 – American Civil War stemmed from the fight over the land acquired by the Louisiana Purchase. The North and South both wanted to expand West. However, the North wanted the West to be ALL WHITE. The South wanted to expand with more plantations that would include slaves. The Railroad industry wanted to take advantage of the Westward expansion to lay railroad tracks all the way out West. Lincoln was a Railroad lawyer. As president his interests were not in freeing the slaves because of humanitarian, ethical reasons, but for the interests of the railroads (Bennett, 2000).

South expected to win with more money and more people. However, the North used the help of new European immigrants and free blacks. 1863 – Homestead Act – This act would give land to European immigrants (Scandinavian, German, Irish) if they became Union soldiers. Blacks excluded and and act against slave holders (to keep the West white). Some blacks, however, acquired some of the Homestead Act land, but were later driven out by the KKK.
