4. Research hypothesis (implied or explicit): - There is an effect of emotion development on friendship-quality in Middle Childhood. This was clearly stated and made apparent in most of the article as it was the main research question. - Differences in positive and negative friendship qualities have effects on children’s social development. This was explicitly stated. - There is a relationship between parenting behavior and a child’s emotional development. This was explicitly stated. - There are indirect effects of maternal emotion on friendship quality five years later. This was explicitly stated. - The child’s gender affects their emotional competence associated with their parents’ emotional socialization practices. This was explicitly stated. 5. Do you know if it’s nondirec(onal or direc(onal? Explain your answer in detail: Directional was made very evident throughout the article. The article states that “Supportive emotion socialization practices when children were age 5 would be positively associated with children’s emotion regulation at age 7 and the mothers’ non- supportive emotion socialization practices would be negatively associated with emotion regulation” This clearly describes the relationship between supportive and non- supportive mothers influence whether or not the child’s emotional regulation. The Article proceeds to conclude that “Emotion regulation at age 7 would be associated positively with perceived positive friendship quality at age 10 (and vice versa for negatively)”. Again directional hypothesis was unmistakeable with the verbiage alone. 5

6. How has this project helped you understand the various types of hypotheses covered in this course? This course has helped me iden(fy the hypothesis and what they should be composed of and various observa(ons that can be concluded. As well as the effects of rela(onships when conduc(ng research analysis and what the ini(al forethought is/was before caring out the inves(ga(on. It also can serve as a way to stay on track and not lose direc(on on what is being studied. Ul(mately, I massed that the various types of hypothesis clearly declares and presump(ons about one or more popula(ons, which may or may not be true. From there the proper measures are to be conducted to form a conclusion on those findings based on the type of hypotheses being u(lized. 6
