differences and intersections is only part of intersectional praxis. Confronting hegemonic powerstructures in- and outside of organisations and movements, is crucial for the work and effortsof activists to hold transformative promise for the many, rather than for the most privilegedwithin a marginalised group.273To recognise different modes of being, living and dying does not take from the work of thepreviously discussed “respectability” strategy. Instead, NGO’s and parents advocating for theirchildrensrights, must be informed by the “rebellious” “non-winnersof the status quo, notonly in solidarity, but because history, research and testimonies teach us that narrowingdefinitions- and recognition of trans modes of living, only harms- and never truly includesanyone who disrupts the dominating interpretations of the gendered body. Seeking to shapeoneself into an acceptable, “passing”, recognisable subject will not onlyfail to save one fromexclusion and marginalisation, it may have disastrous consequences for one self, or one’schild’s, mental health, personal development and overallwell-being.What we can learn from theorists such as Halberstam and Spade, but also from radical transactivists, is that law reform must never constitute the sole demand of trans politics. This canstill be true while demanding law-reform based changes here and now. Securing access togender-affirming care will better the chances of lowering trans lifetime suicidality rates, andmay provide the foundation it takes to resist the systems, that subject trans people to living lives271Mogen Jensen, Minister for Equal Oppertunities,Copenhagen Pride. 2020. “Mogens Jensen og Juridisk Kønsskifte”. “Tent 2 Thursday”August 20. 2020. Preventing Suicidality in Transgender Children & Young People in Denmark66of less life chances, than cis people. In Denmark and elsewhere, citizen status is a major barrier, which determines whether one holds basic rights. Children in asylum and detention centres inDenmark receive little care, whether it be medical, pedagogical or basic needs and necessities, let alone gender-affirming care. However, gender-affirming care is not a luxury one onlydemands after all other needs are satisfied. Lack of gender-affirming care and support mayrender the fulfilment of other needs futile. As seen in the literature reviews of this thesis, privileged trans children experience suicidality too, and trans people have high lifetime suicideattempt rates, which if addressed early in life, could be avoided. Suicides are complex, andseldom have one singular explanation or answer. However, fighting for accessible gender-affirming care to Danish citizens and fighting for the demand of basic human rights for detainedimmigrants and refugees does not exclude one another. The overarching resistance and changeneeded for all children to grow up with hope, futurity and resilience to hardship is multifaceted,
