slime. Polystyrene underwent a chain addition polymerization reaction with the help of benzoyl peroxide which was used as the initiator. Benzoyl peroxide generated radicals which reacted with styrene monomer to begin the chain addition process. Nylon-10,6 was produced by a condensation polymerization between sebacoyl chloride, the ten-carbon diacid chloride, and hexamethylenediamine, the six carbon diamine. Furthermore, NaOH was added in small amounts to neutralize the HCl released each time a new amide bond was formed. Slime was made from the reaction of poly(vinyl alcohol), PVA, and borax, creating a cross-linked polymer. All three polymerization reactions were successful in creating a solid polymer. The radical chain addition reaction created a white fibrous solid called polystyrene, the condensation reaction created a white rubbery solid called nylon, while the cross-linked polymerization reaction created an orange oozy solid called slime. Polystyrene and Nylon were tested to check their solubility in Acetone, Toluene, and Ethanol. Both polymers were insoluble in all three
