After all those stereotypical definitions of a business analyst, you still must have some questions as to what exactly does a business analyst do and how does he fit in a firm. Well, this article will let you know how a typical day looks like in the life of a business analyst. A business analyst needs to have knowledge of both the business and the IT of the firm. Business would include policies, processes, business models and infrastructure while the IT part involves the implementation of these. When firm is facing a strategic or organizational obstacle- that is where the business analyst jumps into action. A business analyst needs to have the right blend of both in order to carry out his tasks effectively. Hence a BA is required to have both the IT skills to understand the current implementation and also knowledge of business to remodel it. When a BA is presented with a case, the following would be the typical steps that he would take to solve it: 1. Defining the problem 2. Staffing the team 3. Working with the client 4. Discoveries along the way 5. Impact Defining the problem will include doing the initial analysis of the case to give it more clarity and to eliminate possible miscommunications between the BA and the client.
