Germany is similar to the United States in the regard of they have state, and localpolicing units. As well as they are both multiple decentralized structures. Which means theirpolicing does not have a central command that runs the entire police, and they have multipleagencies of policing. They have local and state levels of policing, Germany does have somefederal levels of police, but usually leave the policing to the state and local police. The U.S. has
all of the federal, local, and state levels like Germany does. But they all do not have the sameroles.Germany is also very different than the United States in that the U.S. uses anuncoordinated structure, where Germany is a coordinated structure. That means that Germanyruns their policing together, they work together. Where the U.S. lets all of their agencies do theirown thing, to do what they think is best. They are also different because Germany has police justfor certain acts, for highway patrol, police that patrol waterways and coastlines, and police forpolice that are responsible for high speed chases. The German police are currently struggling with the recent immigrants that have beenmoving into Germany. Around a million people have entered Germany in the last two years, andmore than half of them have had their applications for their political asylum has been rejected.Leaving more than half of them are living on the country’s public assistance, and are facingdeportation orders. The police are having a hard time with the amount of people that they have tofind, and deport. But they are also facing issues and heat from the public that if they step up thepace of deportations that it would be a mistake. When the authorities try to send the people backto the countries that they came from the public have been setting up protests because they saythat the countries that they are sending them to are far too dangerous. Even when they try todeport people it is a very slow, and costly process. It is this way because they have to look atevery case and review if they should be deported or not.The last country is Japan, Japan is a decentralized, single system, which means that theyhave a single police force under its command. They operate with one national police force for theentire country, the National Police Agency (NPA) report to the central government and serve asthe supervisory role for Japan’s police system. The everyday business is handled by the lower
levels of the police. The highest level of police is the NPA employees, the NPA determine thegeneral standards and policies. The direction of the day to day operations is left to the lowerlevels of employees. In a national emergency or large-scale disaster the NPA is authorized to takecommand of the police forces. The NPA’s duties are the following, they handle all internationalcrime investigations, criminal identification, dealing with natural disasters, emergencies and civilunrest, empirical guard, police communications, police inspection, police training, tackling
