A Quantico profiling team concluded that his personality would enable him to be a prime suspect. (OlympicBombing 1996: Richard Jewell, the Wrong Man | Retro Report | The New York Times) The media caught wind of the investigation and started incriminating Jewels before he was proven guilty. This caused jewells life to go into a downward spiral and even after proven not guilty he still had issues with certain things such as getting a job.Later it was found that Eric Robert Rudolph was the true Centennial Olympic park bomber. According to a report from the FBI on Rudolph his motive for the bombings was ideological, he planned out the attacks based off his own personal opinions and biases ( FBI 2016). Although the real offender was caught Richard Jewell continues to face hardships. The media should be held accountable for their actions. Although innocent Jewell will always be tied to the Olympic park bombings due to their accusations. The media should face repercussions for their actions and either must give compensation or publicly admit wrongdoings. There should be more sensitivity in criminal and terrorism cases to make sure incidents do not happen again.
