Bloomsburg University O VERVIEW OF A SSIGNMENTS Exams (300 points): 4 exams will be given during the semester. Exams may take any format (multiple choice, true/false, short answer, essay, etc.) Each exam will be worth 50 points. Exam questions may be taken from the text, lecture or other in-class exercises. There will be a 100-point cumulative final exam as well. Assignments (each assignment 5 point): Each group will pick a research topic from the list and the individual members will conduct a literature review, develop research questions and hypotheses, and the design and methodology (address IRB issues) needed to test the hypotheses. Students will turn in periodic assignments reflecting their progress in their project development. ALL GROUP MEMBERS WILL WRITE THEIR OWN PAPER. Homework assignment guides will be posted on BOLT. Article Collection and Summary . (5 points) Based on student’s research interest, student needs to find a minimum of three peer-reviewed professional articles on student’s topic. Do not include books and book reviews. Sort your articles in alphabetical order by the first author. Summarize each article in the table provided in class. Print abstract of each article you found. STAPLE them in alphabetical order of 1 st author’s name. Topical Assignment 1 . Write a problem statement/Research questions (5 points) (about one page) for a project for an important quantitative research study. Identify the study’s purpose, its research question, and its importance. Briefly tie study to prior literature, and identify how it will build upon prior knowledge and represent a significant contribution to the knowledge base about a problem of concern to the social work profession. The problem statement should be brief and at the same time provide enough information to make an informed judgement about the significance of the problem. Topical Assignment 2 . Hypotheses (5 points) Based on your research questions, you need to state key research hypotheses. Topical Assignment 3 . Literature review (5 points). Use a minimum 3 research articles (one or two pages). Topical Assignment 4 . Variables (5 points). Based on previous homeworks, you need add variable sections. For research questions, you can create a model showing all your variables and their causal relationsihps. Also, your variables and the literature review must be consistent and the causal relationship must be clear. You may list dependent and independent variables. Topical Assignment 5 . Design/Methods (5 points). Identify the study design and justify the choice that you plan to use. Explicate the conceptual elements of your study, including hypotheses and variables. Include control variables as needed. Operationally define each variable. Provide a conceptual rationale for each variable and hypothesis. Make clear the connection between this section and the problem statement.
