assistants, physicians, and a variety of healthcare professionals must occur around the clock. (Ellingson, 2002). Collaborative advocacy is an approach to advocating for the people with disabilities and health issues that utilizes collaborative problem-solving skills and relationship- strength strategies to resolve disagreements. There are 5 ways in accomplishing collaborative advocacy and that is through research and evaluate, focus on grassroots and grasstops, make the call, look within, and identify ‘real people’. Through research and evaluation, you will need to question potential allies who would be a good fit for partners. Sometimes the best alternative in finding advocate partner is to consider nontraditional partners such as a story of one person that
can be powerful in influencing policymakers. Grassroots is an approach that mobilizes many supporters who share your message to demonstrate widespread support. Grasstops identifies key leaders and influencers and makes the case directly them. Once you’ve done your research and have a clear vision of what you want to accomplish, make the call. Communicate what your vision is and explain how if policymakers were to join the effort how it would lead to success. Look within the groups to enlist the power of internal and external champions whose unified voice adds credibility to your cause. Identify ‘real people’ by talking to activists, business colleagues and advocacy organizations to identify people who are willing to share their experiences.
December 8, 2019 Texas State Representatives Austin, Texas To the State Representatives of Texas: As I have done a continuous research with the ongoing opioid epidemic, we continuously face every day. I have come upon a recent proposal that would increase the need for more physicians with specialized expertise in treating opioid addiction.
