Hide 1 replyRE: Discussion Week 8-Topic 26 days agoLuke CalhoonGood morning Dr. Bedell,I personally do not believe Certified Public Accountants havethe training to assist in cybersecurity. However, the American Instituteof Certified Public Accountants is pushing for their members to earntheir cybersecurity certificate, which they claim provides accountantswith the knowledge needed to assist in developing security measuresand navigating the daily threat clients might face (CybersecurityCerti±cates,2018). After reviewing the preview of the certificationprovided by the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, Irealized the cybersecurity certificate is a watered-down version of aCertified Fraud Examiner. For example, a candidate must be able toidentify terms like hacker, attacker, or intruder (Cybersecurity
Certi±cates,2018). They must also be able to identify areas ofvulnerability within a given organization. Furthermore, the courseappears to teach the candidates what many of them already know(What is Cybersecurity,2019). For example, to minimizecybersecurity threats, software including antivirus software must bekept up to date, strong passwords must be selected, as well as changedefault usernames and passwords (What is Cybersecurity,2019).They also recommend multi-factor authentication identification andfirewalls be implemented. This limited scope of cybersecurity does not prepare CertifiedPublic Accountants for threats like Wikileaks or Anonymous. WhileCertified Public Accountants may understand the basics ofcybersecurity, it takes true experts to understand things like the darkweb (Schuba, 2021). The dark web is an unchecked portion of theInternet that is a haven for cybercriminals. In fact, just a few shortmonths ago, emails of Mayor Lori Lightfoot’s administration werereleased on the dark web before Distributed Denial of Secretsultimately discovered them (Schuba, 2021).ReferencesWhat is Cybersecurity? With the rapid innova²ons taking place inthe technological word so many cyber security threats have constantly been onthe rise threatening the integrity of millions of sensi²ve informa²on.
