Tech tips you have to put the camera on manual

if you have to crop more than ¼ of the image area. TECH TIPS: You have to put the camera on MANUAL shooting mode to get the dial to go to BULB. In manual mode, press the AV+/- button to choose apertures. For darker images, scroll towards lower f/numbers, use shorter times, move the flashlights slower, or hold the flashes closer to the subject.

For brighter images, scroll towards the higher f/numbers, use longer times, move the flashlights faster, or hold the flashes farther away from the subject. To make black background less bright, step further away from it. If second and third pops of flash are not as bright as first, you are not waiting long enough for power to recycle. Before actually shooting, light something bright enough to focus where the light painting will be, then turn off the Auto Focus before you actually shoot. TV mode will allow you to set specific times up to 30” (seconds) and will choose an f/stop that gives you an exposure that looks like daytime (use AV+/- button to set exposure meter to -1 or -2 to make it stay “night”).
