Thank you for your post! It was very informative and I agree with your diagnosis. Inhaledpollutants such as cigarette smoking can play a significant role in upper respiratory problems including acute and chronic rhinosinusitis. Many studies have shown the correlation between smoking and chronic and acute rhinosinusitis. The upper airway in human’s acts as the first line of defense against inhaled pollutants that can cause harm. Cigarette smoking can cause an increase in nasal airway resistance, nasal irritation, and nasal congestion (Reh, Higgins, & Smith,2018). If Mr. JD smokes, I would highly suggest a cessation program or support group, or this infection could eventually turn chronic and cause additional problems to the immune system. Reh, D. D., Higgins, T. S., & Smith, T. L. (2018). The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
