One example showing how damaging lack of system hardening can be seen with the Anthem 2015 breach. Touted as “the largest healthcare breach to date” (Olcott, 2016), this cyberattack compromised approximately 80 million user’s personal information collected by the company, including both consumers and employees alike, causing Anthem to respond by providing a specialized website where affected users could monitor their credit scores and report identity theft if necessary.
