Once we collectively stigmatize someone, then we can discriminate against them, which  effectively reduces the life chances of the stigmatized individuals. Sexual assault on campus Institutional factors: fraternities  11/1/11 STRATIFICATION:  Caste system: This is a CLOSED system. The social position into which you were born  in the social position who you will die. Social positions are ASCRIBED. NO inter-class  relations or marriage. Class system: This could only happen who we moved away from the land and toward  industrialization! Otherwise, we would have maintained stratification based on land  ownership. Positions have slim possibility of being achieved not ascribed. Theoretically,  position in the class system is based on individual effort and talent. Thus, it is  understood as an OPEN system. Socioeconomic Standing (SES) This is the most common measure from a sociological perspective of assign or  determining social class.
