As your textbook noted, ". . . most people find that they're spending time on a lot of activities that just don't matter very much" (Feldman, 2014, p. 36). In the section below, identify one or two black holes and provide a brief description (one to two paragraphs, using complete sentences) on how the black hole may impact your schedule and how you will reduce disruptions. Black Holes Reflection: Some of the black holes that could impact my schedule would be how easily I procrastinate on almost everything; I am some who will usually always say “oh I will do that tomorrow straight in the morning.” However, ends up doing something completely different the next day until its 9 pm with the due date approaching closer each day I waste my time. Some ways I could reduce letting that happen would be to mentally understand the more I waste my time doing other things aside from my assignments/projects could leave me at a disadvantage of having less time and feeling lost. Another method would be create a time schedule onto my phone to remind me the number of days I have left before due dates, having this around will keep me aware of when I should start my assignments/projects ahead of time so I could have free time for other things once it’s done and not feel rushed.

A second black hole would be unexpected family issues, this year for my family and I was quite difficult. There was a moment my mom was struggling financially back in July, and then all of August is a month of sudden personal grief for her as well. I am relatively close to my mother as she is everything to me, so seeing her in so much emotional pain and concern has me constantly uneasy about her, as health is also sensitive. Although my classes started in September after all those issues happened, she was still suffering. She has also told me that I should not let her concerns affect school and me and that she will get through, but I was still apprehensive about it. I listened to her words as she had a point if I let this affect me it would soon affect my college assignments to then my grades. Some methods that have helped would be to be somewhere alone with your work and only concentrate on that. Music playing in the background helps as well, and once that is all finished I could spend some time with my mom.

As a current student on this bumpy collegiate pathway, I stumbled upon Course Hero, where I can find study resources for nearly all my courses, get online help from tutors 24/7, and even share my old projects, papers, and lecture notes with other students.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
