stresses, law enforcement experience organizational stresses such as shift work, inconsistent training, and internal antagonistic subcultures (Bartol, 2019). The need to be available on a 24/7 basis dovetails organizational stress into personal strain. Missing birthdays, holidays, and the inability to forecast work schedules has a degrading effect on marriages, parental relationships, and the ability to maintain individual health. While the divorce rate of law enforcement has been shown to be equal or below the national average; the occurrences of domestic violence is estimated to far exceed the national average. In studies researching this phenomenon professional and personal stresses of the profession, including the insular nature of the profession, routine exposure to violence and suffering, militaristic management style, and erratic schedules, are frequently cited as reasons for the problem (Cheema, 2016). The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
