Gifted students are provided additional opportunities to expand on an example of their knowledge by demonstrating how to use compass rose to identify north, south, west and east. 4. All students will participate in using globe and map to locate their physical location. I will assist the hearing-impaired student in locating and identifying his/her location on map. Students with learning disability/emotional disability will be given the opportunity to locate their homes using maps and globes, however, additional maps and globes will be provided so students don’t feel rushed. 6. & 7. All students will be asked to participate in group table projects, but not forced. Any student that would prefer not to participate can complete activity worksheet separately. Students are incorporated into specific tables, indirectly matched with students several grade levels above grade level for extra classmate assistance and interaction during discussion and completion of pictures. Hearing impaired student table group will be allowed to use paper and paper to write down words to communicate, as I will also assist in translating where needed. Emotionally disabled
instructions and allow them to begin. 13. I will collect completed assessments and instruct students to prepare for closing discussion of lesson. 14. I will close the lesson. student/Learning disabled students will be paired with table groups where they can obtain assistance in using maps and globes. Gifted students will be given extra credit opportunity if they can locate and name a body of water, name land, and utilize the map’s key/legend and compass rose to identify specific additional information. 10. All students will volunteer to share a worksheet completed in group table project and placed in Maps and Globes flipbook. 11. All students will prepare for summative assessment instructions. I will provide additional assistance to hearing-impaired student if needed. 12. All students will be provided a summative assessment to complete. I will provide additional assistance to hearing- impaired student if needed. For students with learning disability/emotional disability, I will provide an alternative summative assessment which can be taken via student Pads. 13. All students will submit completed summative assessments. 14. All students will participate in closing lesson discussion. III. ASSESSMENT
Summative Assessment : The summative assessment will consist of multiple choice questions which aligns with DOK level and require students to select answer and provide illustrations, pictures, drawings to accompany their understanding. Differentiation: Alternative summative assessments will be provided to learning disability/emotional disability students via iPad. Closure: In closing the lesson, I will engage in a discussion about maps and globes. In that discussion, I will ask students to discuss why maps and globes uses different colors to identify water and land. I would ask the students if they used the same colors on the maps they created in group time and why. I would then ask the students why it’s important for a map or globe to use a compass rose and key/legend. I would then ask them to provide an example of what they may see on a key/legend.
