d.Discussion:The study was done to show how pornography affects love and marital satisfaction in marriages. It appears through the study that pornography does in fact have a significant negative impact on love and marital satisfaction. In order to obtain a good healthy marriage, certain skills need to be acquired to promoting marital satisfaction and love in a relationship. The limitation to this study was the ages involved in the study, how long couples were married for and if pornography was an issue before marriage for some. Perry, S. L., & Davis, J. T. (2017). Are Pornography Users More Likely to Experience a Romantic Breakup? Evidence from Longitudinal Data. Sexuality and Culture, 4, 1157. a.Introduction:This specific research article studied Americans who use pornography and if they are more prone to breaking up their relationship over time. A longitudinal study was done, and the data was taken between 2006 and 2012 n waves also by PALS. There were four different hypotheses for this study. The first was viewing porn earlier on can predict that chances of experiencing a romantic breakup over a period of time. The second hypothesiswas increased frequency of porn consumption correlates to increased chance of breakup in future. The third hypothesis is that there is an association between porn consumption and experiencing a breakup will be stronger for men than for women. The fourth hypothesis is that there is an association between porn use and breakups will be stronger for Americans who are unmarried at the beginning of observation than Americans who are already married. b.Method:The method is a study drawn from PALS (Portraits of American Life Study) that was done between 2006 and 2012. It is a national survey focusing on topics of social networking, political attitudes, moral attitudes, and religious life. This was a cluster sample that was used to get a diverse sample of people. In the first wave of people there were 2610 participants and the response rate were 58%. In the second wave of people there were 1314 respondents and the response were 53%. The dependent variable was whether a respondent had experienced a breakup during or since the first wave. The independent variable for the study was the reported pornography use. c.Results:The results of this study show that more men viewed pornography in their marriage than women did. There was a positive and significant correlation to respondents experiencing a romantic breakup by 2012. d.Discussion:
The study was to examine the correlation between pornography consumption and a greater likelihood for a romantic breakup in the future. Using a longitudinal study over the span of 6 years, the findings confirmed that early porn use, both in general and frequent viewing, predicted a higher likelihood of going through a romantic breakup within the 6 years of the study. Men showed more interest and had a higher frequency rate of watching porn than did women. A limitation is that the participants could have broken off their relationship for multiple reasons. In future studies, the study would have to elaborate more on the reason for breakup and the other factors that contributed to their break up. Another limitation was the type of pornography use and if they were viewing itwith their partner or not.
