the Game
Consists of 4 quarters. 2 opposing teams. Most points @ the end of the game wins. 5 players on the court from each team. 3 full time outs and 2 30 seconds time outs per team. 1 additional time out during overtime.
personal foul
a player foul which involves illegal contact with an opponent.

full-court press
close-guarding defense in which a team pressures the opponent man-to-man the entire length of the court in order to disrupt dribbling or passing

backdoor play

field goal
a shot taken anywhere on the court, within the 3 pt circle and not on the free throw line during a free throw shot for the goal
the act of legally placing the body in the path of an offensive opponent
jump ball
putting the ball into play to start the game, by tossing the ball up b*tween 2 opponents in the center circle. in other jump ball situations, the teams will alternate possession by taking the ball out of bounds.

Starting the game
the game is started in the center circle. official tosses ball b*tween 2 players. the jumpers cannot touch the ball more than twice. non-jumpers cannot enter the circle until the ball is touched.
three-point play
a play in which a player sinks the free throw that was awarded when the player was fouled while scoring a basket
to strike a ball in the air in the direction of a teammate or of the basket
set shot
a shot with two hands from a point relatively distant from the basket, in which a player stands still and shoots the ball usually from chest level
fast break
a play that brings the ball from one end of the court to the other quickly in an attempt to score before the defensive team can get into position
push shot
a shot with one hand from a point relatively distant from the basket, in which a player shoots the ball from shoulder level or above
foul shot
a throw from the foul line, given a player after a foul has been called against an opponent, or a score of one point made on this throw
