Antigua: (n) an island and part of an independent state, with Barbuda, in the Caribbean Sea. It is one of the Leeward Islands.

Caribbean: (n, adj) the geographic region consisting of the Caribbean Sea and its islands, located south of North America and the Gulf of Mexico. The term also describes anything relating to this region.

colonialism: (n) the political and economic control of one nation over a dependent country or territory. The dependent country is physically occupied and financially exploited by the dominant nation.

empire: (n) a major political unit with a large territory under one authority

minister: (n) a politician who holds a high government office

ministry: (n) a government office

The Nation: (n) a term Antiguans use to encompass Antigua, Barbuda, and Redonda

postcolonial: (adj) occurring after the end of colonial rule

prime minister: (n) the head of government in a parliamentary system

retribution: (n) a punishment for a wrong or criminal act

West Indies: (n) a large group of islands in the Caribbean Sea, including Antigua, Barbuda, and Redonda
