Equality 7-2521 Equality 7-2521 is 21 years old, 6 feet tall, and too curious to fit in with his fellow man. He is also known as "the Unconquered" and Prometheus. Read More
Liberty 5-3000 Liberty 5-3000 is 17 years old, tall and thin, with golden hair. Equality 7-2521 calls her "the Golden One" and later gives her the name Gaea. Read More
The Councils The councils are the ruling elite of Equality 7-2521's society. The main council is the World Council, but there is a hierarchy of subordinate councils as well. Read More
Collective 0-0009 Collective 0-0009 is the "oldest and wisest of the scholars." He is the first to address Equality 7-2521 when Equality attends the World Council of Scholars uninvited.
"Evil Ones" The rulers of the current society call all those who lived in the time before the collective "Evil Ones."
Harmony 9-2642 Harmony 9-2642 is part of the World Council of Scholars. He is concerned that the Department of Candles would be negatively affected by Equality 7-2521's invention.
International 1-5537 International 1-5537 is part of the World Council of Scholars. He declares all that is not done collectively is bad.
International 4-8818 International 4-8818 is Equality 7-2521's friend and fellow Street Sweeper. When he and Equality 7-2521 find the secret tunnel, International 4-8818 pledges not to turn in Equality 7-2521 even though he is supposed to.
Saint of the Pyre The Saint of the Pyre is a man whose tongue is cut out and who is burned at the stake by the councils for learning the forbidden word. While he is being burned alive, he stares directly at a 10-year-old Equality 7-2521 and therewith passes on his mission.
Solidarity 9-6347 Solidarity 9-6347 "calls for help in the night." He lives in Equality 7-2521's dorm.
Union 5-3992 Union 5-3992 is a Street Sweeper along with Equality 7-2521. He is described as "a pale boy with only half a brain." As a child, Equality 7-2521 tries his best to be like Union 5-3992 to fit in, but his teachers could tell he was not.
