Summary

Lartius prepares for battle. He tells his lieutenant that the area around Corioles, including the port, must be secured or the city of Corioles will be lost. His lieutenant acknowledges his commands. Then Lartius proceeds to the Roman encampment to speak with Cominius and Martius.

Analysis

This short scene builds suspense, keeping the reader (audience) anxious for the final battle and its outcome. It is a clear rise in the action. In addition, Lartius's strength to command is made clear. This can be interpreted as a reason for Martius's respect and friendship with him.
