The child

The child depicted in the poem "Fern Hill" is drawn from Dylan Thomas's time at his aunt's farm by the same name. The time of childhood where there are no problems or cares is idyllic, but all too fleeting. Soon the child begins to transition into the adult world, and the joy of childhood is left behind.
