Armand Armand is the over 400-year-old vampire who rules over the coven in Paris, using mental coercion to get his way. Read More
Boy from the fencing class The boy from the fencing class accidentally sees Louis in the street lamplight one night, just before Louis and Claudia travel to Europe. Louis spares him.
Celeste Celeste is one of the vampires at The Théâtre des Vampires who hates Claudia for her childish beauty and thus desires to destroy her.
Daniel Daniel, overseer at the Pointe du Lac plantation, is killed by Louis the night Lestat's father dies.
Freniere Freniere is the sole provider for his family of five unmarried sisters. He dies at Lestat's hand after a duel. The plantation then shifts to Babette's control.
Babette Freniere Babette lives on a farm neighboring Louis's while he's a mortal man. Louis loves Babette and offers her counsel, but when she discovers he's a vampire, she treats him like a devil.
Denis Denis is Armand's willing slave who feels aroused when being bitten by vampires.
Emily Emily is Morgan's wife, drawn away from the inn by a vampire who kills her.
Estelle Estelle is one of the female vampires who lives in the theater coven.
Innkeeper The terrified innkeeper, who runs the inn in Varna, gives Louis a crucifix when he demands the directions to the ruins—the likely hiding place of the village vampire.
The interviewer Called "the boy" throughout the novel, the interviewer records Louis's story for a radio show, and at the end of the novel begs to be made a vampire himself.
Lestat's father Old and blind, Lestat's father clings to life under Lestat's care. Lestat appears to love the old man despite treating him cruelly at times.
Madeleine Madeleine is the depressed doll maker Louis turns into a vampire to appease Claudia's loneliness.
Morgan Morgan is a desperate traveler whose wife is killed by a vampire while in Varna. Devastated, Morgan runs into the night and is also captured by the village vampire, although Louis kills him in the end.
The musician Lestat befriends the musician and keeps him alive longer than most of his prey. By creating interesting new compositions, the musician allows Lestat to feel like he is part of the rich creative world. Eventually Lestat turns him into a vampire and Claudia kills him in a fire.
The painter In Paris, Louis kills a drunken painter one night, and the painter, near death, springs up and tries to grab the sketch back from Louis, who, enraged, slashes the painter's throat.
Paul Paul is Louis's younger brother who is drawn to a religious life. Louis indulges him and builds him an oratory and expects Paul to become a priest. But Paul's faith consumes him, and eventually he falls down a flight of steps without cause. His death haunts Louis and drives him to self-destructive habits.
Santiago Santiago is the bloodthirsty vampire set on destroying Louis and Claudia when they arrive in Paris. He has a manipulative nature, good for seducing prey and pumping people for information, but would rather destroy what he doesn't understand than learn from it.
Undertaker Claudia kills the undertaker after she picks up her coffin, built for a child.
The village vampire The village vampire, a revenant, is a mindless, supernatural creature Louis and Claudia encounter while in Varna. This zombie-like creature exists only to kill and feed, living in a monastery's ruins and wearing filthy rags.
